North States Extra Wide Swing Gate Large openings are often difficult to close off. The North States Extra Wide Swing Gate offers parents an affordable choice for closing off a large area for either a child or a pet. The Extra Wide allows children and pets to be confined to an area where mom or dad will have total supervision. It extends up to an amazing 8.5 feet (103 in.) and stands at 27 inches high. However, unlike other North States gates it does not work with small areas at all. The smallest opening it can work with is 5 feet (57 in.). It is great for blocking off a porch or other wide areas. The gate can be removed with ease from its hardware mount when not in place. The North States Extra Wide Swing Gate can swing out of the way with ease when not locked in place. It is made of a durable, deluxe wood, perfect for any home decor.
Not high quality but does the job (2009-06-08)
As other reviewers pointed out, this gate is on the flimsy side, and is absolutely not for the top of the stairs.
We use it to keep a 10 month old out of the kitchen, and it's worked fine. That being said, we don't just leave her in the room alone with the gate up; she's always supervised while in the room (living room). I would not be content with this gate for her bedroom, which is the one room in the house I will let her be in while being somewhat unsupervised.
The gate must be taken down when not in use (which is fairly easy to do) as it does not retract as I thought it would.
Extra-wide Gate but not extra strong! (2009-05-31)
While this gate is extra wide which fits the 77" area I need to cover, it is not a very strong gate and we had to install a second one on top of it to keep the kids from climbing on it and bending it. It definitely is not a good gate for stronger, climbing toddlers which frankly is the reason I need gates!
WORTHLESS (2009-05-01)
THIS WIDE SWING WOOD GATE IS THE MOST USELESS PIECE OF JUNK I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. IT IS NOT EVEN WORTH THE TIME OR MONEY TO RETURN IT. I PURCHASED IT TO KEEP A 6 LB DACHSHUND PUPPY IN AND THE SECOND TIME SHE JUMPED UP ON IT THE WHOLE THING CAME APART AND BROKE. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT FOR A CHILD OR A PET. I GIVE IT ONE STAR BECAUSE THE REVIEW PAGE WILL NOT LET ME GIVE IT A BIG ZERO.....WHICH IS WHAT IT DESERVES.
Great Gate (2009-04-15)
This is the perfect baby gate for an extra wide space. We had been looking for a gate to seperate our kitchen from our living room and every gate we looked into was just not wide enough.This gate is perfect...it actually can open up to an even larger space and it's great how it swings open once unlatched, so you don't always have to step over it. It is sturdy enough to take the abuse of a wild toddler as well!!!
sturdy gate does the trick (2009-03-11)
This is a very sturdy gate, solid construction, great design, and great price (cheapest ultra-wide gate I could find). The anchor eye screws must be screwed into a stud--no substitutes. It is fairly easy to open the gate from the side, but I usually just step over it. A third of the time I my second foot doesn't completely make it and it gets caught, but the fence doesn't budge. I did add some felt feet to the bottom so it wouldn't scratch the floors.
